"Jazz from The Headlands"
|This CD reflects the top-notch quality of live performances at The Headlands. The featured combo was led by Kent Glenn. He was proud to participate in the debut album of these other talented musicians.
On the first set, all originals, Kent fronted a quintet of Headlands headliners, with Pete Gealey on bass and San Franciscan Roger Phelps on drums. Completing the combo were Diane Sallinen (third generation North Coast native) on alto sax, and Bob Ayres, trumpeter and long-time Musical Director at Mendocino High School. This was a knockout band playing gorgeous compositions.
The second set features the leadership and original compositions of local pianist and Headlands regular Richard Cooper. As Pete Gealey enthusiastically puts it: "Richard's a tremendously energetic and inventive pianist and can really work a wide range of styles. He's been entertaining our Friday night crowd since I can't remember when." Pete once again swings on bass, and the trio is rounded out by Jimmy Gallagher on drums.
